The Dragon Kingdom is obviously where Embrix was born and raised. However, the Aetherian Universe is the entire world that surrounds that one powerful kingdom, keeping watch and ruling over all.
To imagine a Dragon Kingdom, it’s not that hard if you’ve watched Disney movies, anything that Pixar has made, or even My Little Pony. The world of animation can’t be talked about without mentioning Warner Bros. as well. That’s a huge shout-out to the big guys of animation who gave me most of my inspiration. They aren’t the only game in town, but my creative mind was already on the run when Embrix needed a home.
Embrix’s world began with the idea that it would need to be protected somehow. But the thought process was that the protection would be made of mostly natural borders. So, we created a world where mountains surround a lake. That was the beginning, and that launched a brainstorming session that blew all our minds.
From there, we were able to come up with different ideas, like what the regions would be like and how dragons would come and go. Of course, the simple answer is that they could fly in and out of this world we were creating. But we wanted to make it more human than beast, so we created roads, and Wyvern Peaks took on a life of its own.
Wyvern Peaks is the name of the Dragon Kingdom in this Aetherian Universe. Are you starting to put the pieces together now? It takes a minute to wrap your brain around it all. But if you think in terms of a country, a state, and then a town, you’ve got it. It’s not much harder than that.
The Drakes live in the countryside where their world is hidden by trees. The Verns live in town where there is shopping and outside dining. A nice little river runs through for waterside seating as well as the lake itself. It’s a quaint town created for the dragon families to enjoy.
There is one road that leads in and out of Wyvern Peaks, and it’s guarded by Dragon Guards who stand at the gate. The king keeps his dragons protected for reasons he has yet to explain. So, Dragon Guards are literally all over the place, walking through town sniffing out if any intruders have found their way into the kingdom, and posted up around the king’s mountain to do as he orders.
There is an entire world outside of Wyvern Peaks with creatures Embrix can’t even name. She’s not allowed to explore outside of her kingdom. Father’s orders. So, all she can do is fly high and take a look over there.
That world is called Glimmerhils, and the creatures over there are fascinating to the Dragon Princess. Mermaids with wings, unicorns, and other beings all live in harmony together, which is what’s so confusing about her father’s strict rules.
What happened to make him want to keep the rest of the world out and keep her in? That’s a mystery that one day, we will explore.
Wyvern Peaks is the backdrop to all the stories we’re going to tell there. We’ve had fun creating the entire universe, and there is so much more to explore. Glimmerhills isn’t the only other place in the Aetherian atmosphere. It’s just next door. We had to take a look at the neighbors before we could venture further outside of the region.
